We are not an open shop and constrain our services to existing clients and partner productions.

Here is a brief description of our project process:

Developing a video project is similar to building a house. You plan, gather materials, then build. Producing a project usually includes four stages: Pre-Production, Production, Editing, and Distribution.

Pre-Production

The phase of Pre-Production is the design treatment. The treatment outlines the project and is much like the sketch of a house. You get a rough idea of how it will look when completed, design elements are explored, audience is identified and needed distribution methods are identified. At this point a cost estimate for the project can be completed.

The second and most important part of pre-production is the design or script. It provides the blueprint for production. You'll work closely with a producer/writer in developing the plan for your project. This process may involve several drafts until you are completely satisfied with the design/script. A design/script should be finalized before production begins. Later changes usually add cost to the project.

Production

Once the design/script or blueprint is approved we're ready to gather the building materials-- the production stage of the process. Production elements include video, sound/music, and graphic art. The studio provides a controlled environment and production can be very efficient and cost effective. However, studio production offers limited backgrounds or sets.

Graphics are an important part of any production. Flying Lion Studios provides an Art Director to develop artwork and lettering to enhance your production.

Another important part of a presentation is music. Music helps provide emotional impact or reinforces critical moments. We can provide our copyright clear library of music in a wide variety of styles, or an original composition can be created specifically for your project.

Editing

When all of the materials are gathered you're ready to build, or edit, the project. Editing is accomplished digitally with computer-based systems and software that provide many options for visual and sound manipulation. The initial stage of editing provides the framing or rough skeleton of a project. Several phases of review by you and FLS may be necessary. Images and sound are combined and trials are made of presentation style and graphic art. After each review, changes are made until the presentation meets the projects objectives.

Timecode is the numeric time reference assigned to each frame of video, much like frames of a film. Timecode is used to identify sections or edit points. These reference numbers are entered into a timeline in the editing software which becomes the editing map for the project.

Before the final stage of editing occurs, you'll approve going forward with the project as designed in the early phase of the editing process. The final editing stage provides the "finish" to the project where particular attention is placed on image quality and flow, the audio mix and proper technical attributes needed to achieve a quality product. Changes at this point are usually costly and time consuming. So it is important to pay careful attention to the early approval phase of the editing process.

Distribution

Distribution of your video project may take several forms-- videotape, CDROM, DVD, web or television. Flying Lion Studios can assist with the marketing and distribution of your final product.
